Today is a light post day. I am home alone so I thought I would share this short post with you today. I hope you enjoy this one.
Home-made French Fries
Here's what you will need:
Wow that was simple. But hopefully the end results are satisfying.
Here is a close up after the potatoes were washed and peeled:
And another of the fries, yes they are sitting on a brown paper bag. This way a lot of the oil is absorbed. Also, do not stack the potatoes after they are fried, yes I said fried, this will cause them to steam and become sort of limp rather than nice and crispy.
And yet another with a burger John made, the burger is a store bought, shaped hamburger, why mess with what we think can be almost perfection and hey it is winter, too cold to grill outside.
The Recipe:
Home-made French Fries
Ingredients:
Oil for frying either Canola or Vegetable oil, both work just fine
Potatoes, white, washed, peeled and cut into wedges
Kosher salt (our preference, table salt is good, as well as sea salt)
A Fry Daddy or similar pot for frying
A small paper bag, cut to open flat
Recipe:
Begin to heat oil in Fry Daddy while you prepare the potatoes.
Wash, peel and cut potatoes into wedges. Pat potatoes dry with a paper towel.
Add small amounts of potatoes to pre-heated oil. Do not crowd the potatoes, this will reduce the temperature of the oil too quickly causing the potatoes to absorb extra oil as well as causing some potatoes to be undercooked while others will be overcooked. Unless you like limp, soggy fries, then go for it.
When potatoes are golden, remove and place on paper bag lined plate.
Sprinkle on desired amount of salt. Adding the salt while the fries are still hot will help the salt adhere to the fries. Serve while still hot.
I hope this squashes your craving for some nice, hot, golden french fries. Oh wait, that may have been my craving. Regardless...
Enjoy!
Evelyn
